A group of students from St. Eunan’s College Letterkenny have been taking part in a leadership training programme at The Loft
The leadership training programme is part of the Worldwide Voices Project, which they have been working on over the past few months. The international group is made up of students hailing from all around the world who want to make it easier for young people to integrate and feel part of the community here. This project was launched in early 2018, and is funded by the Community Foundation for Ireland Integration Programme.
St. Eunan’s Teacher Niamh Haggan said “I’m delighted that this group of international students from Saint Eunan’s College have the opportunity to attend leadership training at the Donegal Youth Service in Letterkenny. These students are keen to use this qualification and their experience to facilitate new students’ integration of our school and in the local community.” and she added “We look forward to having peer mentoring for international students as part of what we offer to our international students from the next school year in partnership with the Worldwide Voices Project.”
The project operates on Wednesday evenings from 6pm until 8pm at the Loft Youth Project in Letterkenny. Training consists of advanced leadership skills and active listening skills. The participants will receive a certificate/qualification in peer mentoring when they complete the training.
Coordinator of the World Wide Voices project Frankie McGreevy stated that “This group have been a joy to work with, and they have been regularly attending the Loft following the completion of their training. They are using their leadership skills as part of our summer programme and their help is greatly appreciated. We look forward to building this partnership between the Worldwide Voices project and Saint Eunan’s College in to the future.”
