The LOFT (Learning Opportunities For Teens)
LOFT Youth Project & Health Advice Café is a support service for young people aged 12 to 25, to engage themselves in activities and personal development programmes and overcome difficulties in their lives. Within the LOFT, young people may partake in group work programmes, one-to-one youth work, advocacy services, youth drop-in space and summer activity programmes.
What we do:
- Group work programmes in social skills and life skills development, peer education, health education and leadership
- Youth Talk Donegal one-to-one youth work service, providing young people with an opportunity to talk through any issue they have with a professional youth worker.
- Youth drop-in space with entertainment for and by young people
- Supporting young people with school and education based issues and concerns
The LOFT seeks to respond to the needs of individual young people in a way that is proactive and planned. Young people are very welcome to engage themselves within the LOFT programmes or they may be encouraged to become involved in the LOFT through a referral from parents, schools, GPs, counsellors and other professional agencies working with young people and their families. Youth workers will meet with the young person, parent and referral agencies to develop an individual action plan to meet the young person’s needs.
What did young people have to say about the LOFT?
“It keeps everyone occupied. It is a very happy place, you can just be yourself and come in to the Loft and sit down and relax.”
“I like the people who work here, they’re always very helpful. I’ve made new friends, and learned how to play the bass which has boosted my confidence.”
The LOFT project is managed by Donegal Youth Service and Foróige
